Schools’ Football Week
This week, we were honoured to be chosen as a Trailblazer school for Schools Football Week!
This year’s theme was Pokémon, and the focus of the campaign was to shift away from competition and instead bring fun and enjoyment back to football. The initiative aimed to create opportunities for all children whether they regularly play football or not, encouraging participation, engagement, and teamwork throughout the week.
Throughout the week, our pupils took part in a variety of exciting activities, including a Crossbar Challenge, Cross the River, Catch the Pokémon, and even a penalty shootout against Pikachu! An incredible 87% of children at the school participated in at least one activity in the MUGA this week!
One pupil shared: "I had so much fun this week, my favourite game was 'Catch the Pokémon'. I just wish I could have taken a penalty against Pikachu it looked so fun!"
To celebrate their enthusiasm and involvement, all participating children received certificates and Pokémon packs. Additionally, some pupils will be awarded special T-shirts, and two lucky winners will receive exclusive Pokéballs (footballs)!
Headteacher Mrs Reay said: "It’s been fantastic to see so many of our pupils getting involved, trying something new, and most importantly having fun. We know that football can be a challenge for some pupils, whether due to confidence, skill level, or previous experience. Without this kind of positive and inclusive approach, the vital elements of teamwork, enjoyment, and a sense of belonging can be lost. Initiatives like this remind us of the true power of sport—not just to develop physical skills, but to bring joy, build confidence, and create a space where everyone feels included."
A huge well done to everyone who took part, what an amazing week of football and fun! Massive thank you to Coach Jack for organising such an exciting week for our pupils.
