Year 3 and 4 Boys Islington Football Champions!

Congratulations to the Year 3 and 4 boys who were crowned champions of Islington! Wednesday 23 October, our boys put on an outstanding performance during their qualifying day, winning all 4 of their matches with an impressive display. They not only won all 4 games but also managed to keep a clean sheet in each, conceding 0 goals throughout the day. This fantastic achievement earned them a well-deserved spot in the finals.

On finals day, the boys continued their winning streak, dominating their group by winning all 3 of their matches, once again without letting in a single goal. Their solid defence and sharp attacking play saw them advance to the semi-final, where they faced Hugh Myddelton School. In a well fought match, the boys secured a 2-0 victory, setting up an exciting final clash against Drayton Park School.

The final was a highly competitive and tense match, with both teams giving it their all. With the match finishing 1-1 at normal time, it took us to extra time with the game then finishing 2-2, pushing the game into a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Despite the pressure, the boys held their composure, scoring 3 clinical penalties to secure a 3-1 win in the shootout and being crowned champions!

Across the tournament, the boys finished with a remarkable record: 9 wins out of 9 matches, 16 goals scored, and only 2 goals conceded (both in the final). Their consistent performance, from start to finish, showed why they were deservedly crowned champions.

Sports coach Jack: "I couldn’t have asked for more from the boys. Throughout the tournament, they showed incredible resilience, bravery, and, most importantly, teamwork. Every player gave their best, supporting each other on and off the pitch, which was key to the boys success."

Next, the boys will proudly represent Islington in the London Youth Games, where they will compete against schools from other boroughs across London. We can't wait!
